Default 84 Rack & Pinion

Well I installed my rebuilt rack last night, somehow going in was much easier than coming out. My delima now is all adjustment is in on the ball joints and each tire is toed out about 1/4 of an inch. Has anyone ever encountered this problem, can I remove 1/4 inch from each tie rod? I'm not sure how this will affect the front end alighnment, any thoughts guys?

The front tires are toed out with the tie rod ends screwed all the way on to both tie rods? You don't, by chance, have the tie rod end jam nuts preventing the full installation of the tie rods ends, do you? If it isn't a problem with the installation, It must be a wrong or mis-packaged rack.

Tie rods appeared to have less threads on before instalation, I was assured the part was right and the numbers matched on the housings. At this point I have ran the jam nuts past the threads and bottomed out the ball joints.

Sounds like you've put an 88 up rack in your car, You should have an inch or so of threads WITH the locking nut.

Sounds like you have the wrong rack.

Those things are rebuilt and boxed by Chinese factory workers, they can't exactly read/speak english. I bought a Z51 rack from autozone, it was misboxed and looked like ****. They just spray painted over the dirty old greasy rack and bushing and the hydraulic surface of the steering shafts were scratched up. I returned it and spent more money for a good rack from these guys:

Thanks for the help, I just ordered one from these guys and they are going to overnight it. Guess I'll be pulling the other back off tonight, and returning it to autozone with a few words. Aside from the overnight shipping the difference in price was tolerable.

Thanks again
