help with muffler Elims
I was curious what the total cost for them installed is? Will I lose HP or TORQUE? I wanted some pictures if anyone has them...

Re: help with muffler Elims (fade_to_black)
I got mine put on Wed., they sound great. Mine cost about $150, but that's includes buying four chrome tips. It should be under $100 if you use your stock tips. I didn't feel any loss. In fact, got my first ticket last night for spinning my tires  :nonod:

I show a loss of about 1-1.5 mph in teh 1/4, so that is a loss of some HP. Not enough to make me regret it because it sounds great.
I got the Mid America Kit for $150.
If you go this route(or any other)make sure you weld everything. It vibrates like hell and loosens everything. I lost 2 hangers from vibration and one broke after I had everything welded.

Re: help with muffler Elims (fade_to_black)
I was at that cross road last month. So I bought a new rear Y pipe before I purchased mufflers. I connected the rear Y and just wired up the ends (where the mufflers would connect) so it would stay up. I figured I would run the rear Y wide open to simulate the elims. I started her up and I liked the sound just fine. Actually, not at loud as I thought it would be. Then I went for a ride. I floored it, and I really could feel a loss of torque. I have a very mildly modified motor so I need all the torque I can get. I decided to buy Mid America's ZR-1 style targa mufflers. They offered me the sound I wanted and no loss of torque. If you can get this too work, here is a Quicktime movie of what they sound like and an image of what they look like. I've had them for over a month now, and I still like them a lot.

I can tell that my 92 lost some torque when I put on the elims. I'm sure others will say they didn't. I picked up some stock mufflers to put back on.
I did like the sound of the elims though.

what if I put elims and took off the cats? Would that make up for the Elims loss in torque?

Actually the loss of torque would be much worse if you also removed the cats. You need some back pressure to maintain torque. I had the pre-cats and the main cat in place when I ran the car with just the rear Y and no mufflers.
I could hear the air swooshing through the open pipes and the car felt weak.
I believe if you have a highly modified motor like Mr. Mojo, you will not feel the loss as much. Otherwise, it's like blowing air through a straw. :)

I gutted my cat and installed targas on my 85 it sure felt faster. I dont have any time slips from before. Has anyone run a test on this? I would think less restriction would = more HP.

I did the same thing. I bought flowmasters, and couldn't get the stock mufflers off. Took it to a shop, and had them cut off and the flows installed. Well needless to say, they didn't fit, crooked as heck. So I tried to straighten the flows by my self to no avail, then decided to leave them off for a while ( I was considering elims and wanted to try it out) There was a real noticable difference. (this is the main point, sorry for the dribble) It sounded better, but power was lacking and the car felt sluggish. It was like i had to push the gas more to get the result i was used to with the stock mufflers. It didn't snap out of the green light anymore. After a few days of that, i went to another shop and had the flows cut and welded to fit. I could tell the difference right off the bat driving out of the shop. At that point i decided that elims were not the solution.
Next plan is hooker super comps and magnaflows w/ true duals connecting them. I can eliminate the air pump w/ that set up and all the removed parts will go in the shed. (geez, i wish i had just done that the first time)

Re: help with muffler Elims (fade_to_black)
My cost of labor plus 2.5 inch stainless steel pipe was $66 total. With regular pipe it would have been $15 less. No bends made in new pipe. Cut new pipe at angle at rear fascia. No chrome tips.
No seat of the pants difference, and my own time over standard distance from a standard starting speed (in 2nd gear only) test shows no change (not as accurate as a 1/4 mile). Also no difference in fuel economy noticed. Sounds great. Weighs 28 pounds less. I drive my LT4 daily and I am very glad I made this change. FrankLT4CE

I love my elims, I didnt feel any loss...but then I left my cats on so...I also had them take off the old pipe and put on 3inch from the main center muffler back to the tips. Its a good deal and cost very little :D
