On my 84 Corvette, I had the trunk open while listening to music yesterday, then did my usual battery shut off and stored the car. Today I go to drive the car a little, and the Trunk Ajar light was on, as well as the 2 rear trunk lights. I opened and shut the trunk many times to no avail. I drove it to the store, and had to turn the battery off when parking because the 2 rear trunk lights would not turn off, as if the trunk was open. Any suggestions? This is just annoying.
Take the molding off in the back and readjust or replace the switch if defective. The switch is the one that the black peg on the hatch glass presses. On my 86 the switch got out of kilter.
Edit: For quick testing you can push the switch all the way in with a drill bit or similar to see if the light goes out.
Thanks for that link. I've never done anything electrical. I've removed the rear panels before while changing the the carpet. Once I get in there, is it straightforward?
There are 4 Phillips head screws holding the black rear hatch window trim panel in place. remove those 4 screws and work the panel out of position to access the light switch. The switch is held in place by two short screws. Unplug the 2 wire connector, and the switch is out. It could hardly be easier. If you don't mind doing without the cargo area lamps for a while, just unplug the 2 wire connector and reinstall the trim panel. That is what I did, just last week.
I never had a warming light. I was walking the dog one night and I noticed the cargo area lamps on. I pulled the courtesy lamps fuse and came out the next day and started fiddling with the switch. After I lubed and tried to "adjust" the switch and saw that I was getting nowhere, I simply unplugged the switch. I'll replace the switch when I get around to it. You can check the schematics in your FSM, but I can't imagine that it isn't the same switch that activates the lamp on the DIC. Try unplugging it an see for yourself.
