Hi,
I would appreciate some advice, I am considering installing a new crane 104227 camshaft and meziere electric water pump during the winter months, should I remove the complete gear that runs the existing w/p leaving a hole into the block and if I was to install a half dollar coin into the hole remaining in the timing case should it be welded into the hole or should I use rtv/silicone sealant to seal it in place.
I am also considering changing the timing set, would you advise replacing with the Cloyes 9-3151 or the GM performance extreme duty set, I understand there is a larger crank sprocket available to take up the slack on the timing chain, should I also consider replacing this.
I have a 1996 LT1 with low miles, JBA shorty headers, comp cams 1.6 roller rockers, street use only.
Thanks in advance
If you are using an electric water pump you can use almost any traditional timing set for the sbc on your LT1. The only reason LTX tming sets are rediculously expensive are because they are designed with the water pump gear in it.

You can just use JB Weld to weld the coin in there. Works great! I don't think there is any way RTV would hold up right there.
I used J-B Weld to stick the half-buck into that hole over 30K miles ago, no worries to this point. I turned Kennedy's face to the inside. No way could I have a Democrat's face exposed to the surface!
I use the Cloyes 9-3145 True Double Roller timing set-up, about $90 or less depending. My Meziere EWP is now over 30K miles old and still going strong, can't complain there either. Truly as good of $200 or so that has ever been spent on this car.

Will the 9-3145 work on the 96 cars with the crank position sensor's reluctor ring?

I'm relatively sure that to use any TDR on a '96 requires the elimination of this sensor, making it a programming issue. Other than this and plugging it's hole, you should be good to go, otherwise. I believe that a 3/4" core plug will do the job.

OK, So did anyone ever find out if the double roller works with the Reluctor Ring, or not? I was just informed about this and I'm over here going HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
