Default 96 LT4 O2 sensors

Servie engine light came on so I had Auto Zone scan my OBD II and it scanned that my front driver side O2 sensor is bad. Is there a way to test them??

Drove Vette for two days and light went off? Looking for prices for O2 sensors.

The sensor data can be looked at on a real time scan. If it is original, more than likely it just needs replacing. Check the connection at the sensor and look at the wiring to make sure it hasn't touched the exhaust pipe or cat. A FSM can be used along with a scanner to test the code you have.

Did you notice any black smoke coming from the left muffler? Any problem with driveability more so after the engine has warmed up?

I believe the 96 has stock heated O2 sensors which will cost a little more than the one wire non heated ones.

Stick with factory original O2s for replacements. I replaced mine ('95- with heated sensors) with an online GM dealer who gives us the jobber price, just over $40 each, when I bought mine. Or nearly half of retail.

My 96 LT4 has 4 two before and two after the cats. Rears are heated. I am looking at having new bullet cats and a new pipe made and just replacing all 4 O2's while the cats are on the floor...where did you purchase your AC Delco sensors? Auto Zone wants about $65.00( Bosh) for the front sensors ( non heated they said).

The 96 LT4 has two heated and 2 standard O2's So Auto Zone shows, had then do a free scan when check engine light came on.

Vette runs fine no smoke or odor coming from exhaust.( new engine last year) Replaced opti, wires, plugs while LT4 was out being balanced. Light went off after two days of driving the work and back.

Purchased this LT4 in 99 when it was still in warranty from best friend, all orginal except what I have replaced. Mod's....as they the orginal parts break...

Thanks
Louis

That's odd, the front sensors on my '95 are heated as (was) the one rear one, before I eliminated it. I believe they are all three the same part# in '95. I assumed a '96 would use the same ones. Of course it's not out of the realm of possibility that Autozone could be full of crap too! I'll send you the info on where to get them.

Thanks, I only went to AZ( usually half correct) because of the Free scan. My cats are right and left specific. I have the two GM shop books(index is hard to find problem areas) and a it shows all 4 sensors in front and behind the cats with pig tails that unplug.(still looking at GM books) I am pricing bullet style cats vs the Random Tech replacement cats. Really wanting the smaller cats as next year LT Headers are next. Still paying off Visa on new engine..........sigh.

Been there, done that! PM sent. AZ isn't so bad as far as one of the discount chains go. At least they carry some quality stuff like Felpro gaskets, Clevite bearings and such. I was very grateful to them one night when assembling a short block out in my garage. One of my rod bearings was mis-packaged. Or I should say, right package but wrong bearing! I got there just a little before their closing time of 10:00 PM and they had the exact undersized Clevite 77 bearing that I needed so I could get the block buttoned up that night.

Not DIRECTLY related to your car, but I had AZ scan my '97 Chev PU when it started illuminating the check engine light. They told me all four O2 sensors were bad. (Reading out of range.) WTF? I thought it through and checked fuel pressure. After a $13.00 fuel filter my problem was solved.

I used the Denso o2 sensors and when you see the them you can see why they seem to be a better sensor. From a design standpoint they just look better.

LT4 Bud...no he did give a code....... I should have asked. Wii gp back When the light goes on again.

He just said the LT4 1996 had a front and rear and the left front O2 was bad. (GS is where he looked in PC for part#) will get best price for all different brands. Mid Cities Classic that has done most od my work Only uses GM...Ac Delco Only. I did recheck my adjustable fuel pressure regulator and notice I need to move it back up to about 47 PSI. Every six months it moves a little???

Thanks Fot the help
