I really like the digital dash on my '85, but i've noticed that under hard acceleration it skips quite a few numbers, not exactly smooth. I've read that they switched to a different ECM in '86 that reads data much faster. Would the faster ECM improve the speed of the dash gauges or do they work separately?
They work seperately. The 85 and 86 also use different ECM's. You may want to start by cleaning the connections at the digi dash and the grounds for it.
That's an excellent question to pose to Gordon Killebrew. His number is 1-800-398-3883. I think he charges $10. for the call and $3.00 per minute, my bet is he could answer or steer you in the right direction in one minute.
Each one of our vettes have somewhere between 24-27 grounds, so good luck checking all those. One thing I'd probably have checked is your alternator, simply because your symptoms seem to show up "under hard acceleration".
On my 86 there are three ground for the digital dash.
Two on the 32 pin connector (D1 and D3).
One on the 24 pin connector (B1).
If the digital cluster is cutting out or showing an unusual display, I would check and clean the grounds and check C16 (Bat voltage) and D16 (Bat voltage).
If it's just slow as the youtube clip, then I wouldn't worry about it.
