Hey everyone, I decided to replace all of the lines feeding into the charcoal can because they are all showing their age now. They actually all carry the original date stamp still.
Here's my question. How do I trust the FSM drawing compared to what is really in my car?
What the FSM shows:
-- Vacuum source comes from intake manifold which splits off by a T. One line to the solenoid the other line to the purge valve.
-- The return line goes straight into the metal fitting back to the tank.
-- The other line on the purge valve goes straight into the solenoid.
My car is as follows:
-- Vacuum source comes from the intake manifold directly into the solenoid, no T.
-- The return line goes into a check valve. The check valve is getting it's vacuum from the vacuum line going to the cruise control. There's a little Y connector. One line to the check valve I'm talking about, and the other to the purge valve on the can.
-- The other line on the purge valve goes straight into the solenoid.
I guess when it's all said and done, does that additional check valve really need to be in line on the return hose? I just want to make sure I end up buying the correct hose and I'm doing this accurately. A photo of someone's charcoal can would be really cool too.
Unfortunately I don't have the vacuum diagram on my radiator shroud, but let me ask this. How close is this vacuum diagram to the one that would be on the 85 (specifically just the charcoal can portion)? If it's the same, then the FSM is off and my car is accurate.
