Default Freeze plugs

Get a 1" (or so) wooden dowel rod (centered on the freeze plug) and tap the freeze plug in gently with a hammer. After it starts, work around the edge with the hammer directly on the freeze plug until the plug is flush with the block.
We always carried several plugs, a dowel and a hammer on the boat; especially in salt water.
Good luck

Are you referring to the big round brass freeze plugs or the oil galley plugs? Oil Galley plugs screw in.

Default freeze plugs

emergency freeze plugs have a bolt and nut, and you can tighten the nut in the center till you get to fix it right.
