CAST OR FORGED?
How can you tell if a chevy crank is cast or forged? I remember something about the sound it makes when you tap it with a hammer or something like that. Enlighten me oh wise ones.

Your 86 has a cast crank. You can tell by the casting parting line. It's thin and pronounced while the forged crank has more of a flat parting line.

A forged crank will have a bell-like ring when it is tapped (with a hammer?). The cast crank sound will just be a thud. The crank must be out of the engine for this test. Otherwise go by the parting line, as explained above.
