possible Hybrid conversion
I posted this as a reply to another thread, then though it ought to have it's own Snappy title. Are we going to have to start a forum section for Hybrid stuff soon?

Neat piece.
Quote:
A special automatic transmission incorporates two 100 kW (133 hp) three phase induction motors, two planetary gearsets, and two selectively-engaging friction clutches.
and better yet:

Finally, the whole system fits into the space of, and indeed appears as, a conventional 4L60-E automatic transmission.
Now I just have to find someplace in the Vette to put that 300v Battery pack, and all of the control stuff. Then wait for someone to cooperate by wrecking a 2 Mode SUV so that a "donor" vehicle will turn up at the Boneyard
This ought to be Fun
I commute with this car nearly 100 miles per day, round trip. So far I've resisted the idea of buying an "economy" car as a cheaper commuter vehicle - I can't/won't/haven't yet crossed the line where I would drive something I don't Like just because it's costing me less to do so than driving the 'vette would.
Yet. Now if Honda would offer a turbo version of the Fit, in Coupe form.... Nah :o
Now, If I could find a way to push the fuel mileage of the 'vette up into the mid 30's or more, gas could go on up to $4 (or even $5 - the day Will come) per gallon or higher and I would still be spending no more for fuel than I am Now. If/when that fuel mileage target can be reached at a reasonable cost, and without completely ruining all of the things that make the car what it IS, well - I'll have the wrenches out doing it.
Of course - no one said that meant going Slower... The torque output of an electric motor like that peaks at Zero rpm.
