Be very sure of location of each spark plug wire. The opti is marked but not the wires. Cross just 2 of them, especially on the drivers side, and you're in for more headache. Real good time to replace wires, plugs and water pump if not already done. I did not raise the engine at all but did remove entire cooling system to have radiator cleaned. Much simpler job with that out of the way.

the original wires are marked. my new delco wires were not.
If I were to change the optispark cap what would I be getting myself into? How much has to come off to get to this?
Thanks, Brad
On my 1994 LT1, I had to remove the whole optispark in order to remove/install the cap. If you gotta do that, why not go ahead and just replace the whole unit? The labor is the same but the results are a certainty, versus a "maybe" that a new cap might bring to the mixture.
It's not really difficult to do this job. It is however, very scary. You must remove the waterpump first and when that is out, the whole area opens up. It's the waterpump that hides everything and makes it look un-doable.
Then, if you are taking off the waterpump, might as well replace that too as the labor is the same.....
