My '96 with Electronic Climate Control wasn't switching vents properly and my search lead me to the answers I needed to fix it. I managed to get it working by trimming the connectors at the controller then touching up all the solder joints on the solenoids. Now it's all mounted back into place, but I need to attach the plug with the colored vacuum lines to the controller again. The original setup was using a push nut and I about killed myself getting that off. I'd like to put a regular threaded nut on it this time so if I ever need to get in there again I will have an easier time. (Is that a good idea or not?)
Of course, now that it's mounted again, I can't figure out what size nut to use. Does anyone happen to know this from their own previous experience?
Well let me answer my own question, and hopefully help the next guy out. I pulled the unit back out and found the nut needs to be an M4 x .7mm pitch. I also measured out the "Nipples" and found that they could be easily reinforced using 1/16" OD tubing. I ordered some nylock nuts, some M4 x 12mm wide washers to match the diameter of the push nuts, and some brass tubing sticks that I can cut down and insert into the soft nipples so I should never have to do this again.
Of course, I had to order 100 nuts, 100 washers, and 15 12" long sticks of tubing for a whopping total of about $15.00. So if there are 99 of you who need the same fix, drop me a note and I'll send you nuts, washers, and pieces of tubing.
Plenty left. PM answered. Getting the controller out was a PITA because I have a 6-spd. It's just held on with one nut, and that's easy enough to get to if you drop the hush panel first, but twisting it around to get it just right to drop out past the clutch pedal arm was a horror. I'd think that in a non-clutch car it would be much easier.
