The car weighs approx 3270 lbs with me in it (also depends on how much gas I have in the car). There is no roll cage in it.
I do need one as the car goes under 11.50's during the cooler days.

Car has full interior and A\C. I do run light weight Weld drag wheels.

Think you can wait that long? Won't you want to put it on as soon as you get it?

I don't have an engine for it to go on just yet.

I hope to send the block off to the machine shop with the new rotating assembly by early February.

I think it's decided for me after reading the article above, I want a Super Ram. Unless the Fast unit is just incredible, (and we should be getting reports within the next few months) I'd like to pick up a SR. Now the problem is locating one at a reasonable price.

Just keep your eyes open, they pop up every now and then at a reasonable price.

Here ya go

Basically they're all the same, except that TPIS port matches the openings on theirs.

Point is, valve float on conventional 23 degree motors typically starts occuring north of 6000 rpm with a hydrallic cam, as most run here.... thus it is logical to chose a efi intake that specializes in giving you the best average torque curve under 6000 rpm.... which I believe the Superram does.

My favorite reference is forum member Ralph's old set-up, in which he used his 80,000 mile stock 350 shortblock. slid a LPE 219 cam in, slapped on AFR 190 cylinder heads and a Superram with a mild 2800 rpm torque converter & 3.45 gears. This resulted in a best of 11.6 @ 117 mph and he ran consistent high 11's for many years in this set-up without a single engine problem. This was a very docile to drive on the street set-up that anybody could drive including the wife, and yet provided him consistent enough 11 second et slips for him to win 1 or 2 Championships in the very competitive East Coast Corvette Challenge series.

Ralph's set-up was a simple set-up that anybody on this forum can build quite easily.... no secrets, just a nice, simple and tame set-up.

I think my point is, if you can find a 350 stock short block C4 that accelerates harder than the above set-up with a docile hydraulic cam such as the 219, 2800 rpm or less converter and an intake different than the Superram then buy it, but if not, I recommend you try to find a Superram.... you can have the same acceleration as Ralph did.

But, maybe things have changed around here these days and somebody has found a harder accelerating true street combination than Ralphs with a different intake... I dunno.

good luck with your decision.

Beach Bum
What else did he replace? TB? roller rockers? I have a superram and want to install it on my 85, I will get the 219 cam and switch to a roller system, Do I need new rods, and which kind? Will vortec heads give me similar results? I have a TPI vortec intake.

I'm not sure you truly know your engine. If it's the stock 85 engine, it does not have Vortec heads. In fact, I don't think vortec heads work on our engines. You have iron head which don't flow too well and should be replaced. If you want better heads, get some AFR's.

BTW, if you wanna sell that super ram let me know!

Intake manifolds are one of the more hotly debated topics.

I have a stock 85 vette TPI setup, but on the shelf in my basement I have a powder coated black slightly ported Superram and a vortec TPI intake. I was thinking on buying Vortec heads to match the intake and buy a 219 cam. Vortec heads do work, if not why did they make a vortec TPI intake?

Or should I sell the superram and buy some large tube runners and port my plenum and get a ZZ9 cam? I won't have to do any grinding with large tube runners, which I would have to do with the superram.

I'd like to see a pic of the vortec TPI intake. I've never heard of one before which is not to say there isn't one. Can you post a pic of it? As for heads, there's nothing out there that flows better than the AFR's.

I think you should get some big tube runners, port the plenum and get the ZZ9 cam. Then you can sell me your superram!!!

Carson, thanks for the article. It was actually posted as a link in an earlier post. Very good article!

It's neat to see that SLP cross-ram "T" intake in a recent magazine. I always thought that thing looked cool as hell in the Firehawk!

Hey, my fellow Aurora buddy! There's one of these for sale in the C4 parts section, (or was.) He wanted a pretty penny for it too.
