Ok, so I went down and replaced the battery. Brand New Diehard Gold...still no start. Cranks faster, but still no start. I tried the trick Scorp told me (hold gas pedal down 30 seconds, then start) no avail. Now...the ENTIRE ignition is brand new...EXCEPT the Spark Plugs. I put a Holley Annihilator HEI Module on, Hypertech Rotor/Coil/Cap, MSD 8.5mm Plug Wires. I'm pretty sure the car is getting fuel, because I SMELLED gas, and I checked to see if there was fuel in the rail, and there was. Any ideas? I have bad valve seals, so maybe the leaking oil just completely covered the plugs?
HELP!!!!!
Yes, most definetely. I drove it 5 days ago, and it ran just fine. I drove it about 30 miles. No problems. I just remembered, that it was kinda wanting to die at the end of the trip though, so...?
How would the distributor gear get chewed up? and how hard is that to replace? I've never heard of such a thing...but you guys may be right...Because there's really not much other explanation. I'll check it 2moro. Care to give me some instructions?
I dont know what would do it but it happend to scorp, He ended up just replacing the gear ont he distributor, but, just take off the distributor cap crank the engine and youll know if its good because the rotor will spin just like its suposed to...if its not that Im not sure what else it could be..?
Give it a try and let us know :yesnod:
could be a pick-up coil, but usually ive seen these cause problems just out of the blue moon, be fine for a while, then act up again. personally, i HATE the aftermarket ignition modules like the holle HEI module you stuck in there. i have had nothing but bad luck with any of them but stock replacement. i have a good working stock one in the garage that is just collecting dust, so if you want it, mail me at jxbxn@aol.com and give me your address and ill send it to you if you dont wanna spend 40 bucks on a new one. pull a spark plug, attatch the plug wire with the plug out and crank the engine over. have someone watch the plug to tell you if it is firing or not.
Damn the house painters! I can't get to my car at all today! Well, first off, I'm going to try and see if the rotor spins. If not, then there's the culprit. If it DOES spin...I think I'll just cry. I'm 95% sure I'm getting fuel, because I took off the snorkel and FLOORED it, and both me and my girlfriend could smell gas. (which is a good sign). I was thinking maybe the Cold Start Valve would have something to do with this maybe? I was looking up the Distributor Gear last night, and I seen it was $45 from Corvette America. It doesn't sound like it'd be too hard to replace.
As a side note:
This EXACT same thing happened to me on my 75 Chevy Truck. I ended up replacing EVERYTHING. COMPLETE ignition, Starter, Battery, Alternator. Come to find out it was the stupid HEI Module.
So I may look into that dumb thing. Sheesh though, if it IS bad, $60 for a piece of garbage! :bs
My FIRST order of business is to check the BAT terminal on the Distributor Cap, see if that's getting 12 volts.
ive seen ALOT of problems with those aftermarket ignition modules. like i said, if your interested i will send you my extra working module for free fifty if you dont wanna buy another one. im 100% sure that it works
L98Terror has gone through (burned up) about 4 Accel ignition control modules before he got a good one. There is one in my car right now, so far so good.
The gear is easy to replace if that is busted, but I would reserve to that as last resort and least probable, mine had 3 teeth MISSING.
Yeah. If I take off the distributor cap off and I see that the rotor isn't spinning, then I'll pretty much just GUESS it's the gear that's shot. IF the rotor is spinning though, I'll send that dang module back sure as ****! It's a Holley, so...I would expect it to be of good quality. We'll see today though, I'm sure.

Even if the rotor IS spinning, see how far you can turn it by hand in place. Mine would turn a good 3/4" back and forth by hand. NOT good. It should barely move at all.
