Default changes

If your engine needs the heads rebuilt, buy a set of later corvette alum. heads, or a set of hi-perf. heads, and keep going. Remember, the overdrive is .6:1. so at 100,000 miles, the engine only really has 60,000 miles. If it was in a truck, you would just change the heads. Change your heads, change the cam, change the lifters, change the timing gears, keep going to 240,000 miles. Then bore it to .060 over
cons
1. the dipstick on on the left hand side,
2. two piece rear main crank seal
3. '86 pan and pan reinforcement strips won't fit
4. original flexplate won't fit
5. block may not have higher nickel or tin content
6. no provisions to drill and tap the roller cam retainer and spyder
7. must use aftermarket roller lifters
Pros
1. 85 came with forged pistons
2. if you get the trans with it, the flexplate is no big deal
3. if you go to roller cam, you need a cam button
4. block is drilled for fuel pump push rod
5. physically, other than the dipstick, externally the same
6. use a regular 85 corvette oil pan or any other pan non corvette
