I came out from under the VATS unit up under the passenger side courtesy light area. I originally thought that it was the Courtesy Light Delay Timer, but it is not. I don't think its the VATS system because that system still works. Could be hatch open relay or safety belt alert system or consol lights. I just don't know, but still need help identifying it.

I know it is not for the hatch release,I removed that black box from my 86 coupe and the hatch still works.
I will have to check my book tomorrow when I get to the shop.

Look under the dash and search for a loose 4 wire connector with colors black, green, gray, and pink/black.

If you find one and it snaps into it, that thing is the "Low Coolant Module". Which is located in the area you described this came from. That part number brings up nothing.

With the low coolant module unplugged, your low coolant light will never come on even if everything else is in tact, and there really is low coolant in the radiator or it's empty. That's one way you'll know. It looks very similar to the low coolant module on my car. Even that tan spade plug under it looks the same. Only mine was not black, it was transparent.

Yes looks like the pn is way discontinued unless someone has the original parts book from 86, I was thinking it may be the headlight /ignition warning chime, I have an extra vats relay and it's not that. Now I'm curious, I know I seen it when I was working under my dash.

I have an 86/early 87 parts book, and that part # is not listed in there?!

OK - may be something odd here! The original post/picture in this thread clearly showed a module/relay(?) of #14073971. Now, my 86/87 GM parts book shows two different #'s for the 'Low Coolant Indicator Module' - #22533547(for 87), and #14078971(for the 86)! Could there be some sort of error/misprint on the 86 Module # listed for the 86?! Just a thought? Cheers.

Oh, I think that you have it ! The module is marked 1407-3971, but the 3 could be an 8. At any rate I am going to check it out and see if 1407-8971 is still available. Thank you very much

I checked the wiring out and, yes, the 4 wire connector has black, green, gray, and pink/black wires. I think that we have finally identified this rascal. Thanks to all and to 86Pacer for the final ID.

Default Module

I have PN 22533547 in my GM service manual which identifies the low coolant module and points to that area to find it.

I am searching for an available one.

Good luck
