Hello, I replaced my catalytic converter on my '88 and need to reconnect the AIR tube. My old one was welded which I can't do myself. Can I just connect it with a piece of hose? How hot does that tube get? Ecklers has a AIR pump to converter hose kit for $20, but I don't want to wait for it to get shipped if all I need is a short piece of hose. I also don't want to eliminate the entire AIR system.
You can also use a compression coupler. They are brass and fit the 1/2 inch cat tube fine. I would use two of them, one directly on the cat and the other about 9" to 16" up line toward the engine. This gives you the ability to line up the tube with the cat first then pull the tube inline toward the engine. Depending on the cat you have replaced, you may need the two just to extend the tube.
Works great and can be unscrewed if you have to drop the exhaust, or in my case...I pull the cat for racing and bolt in a straight pipe. I have added a fitting to the straight pipe so the line that whet to the cat now attaches to the straight pipe. I can replace cat/pipe in about 1/2 hour.
