Why remove the AIR pump?
Jim-K
In my case it certainly wasn't for weight, the LT1 pump weighs about 3 ounces.
Heh here in Ohio they might look under your car, I've failed 3 times... everytime they look under everyone else's car... but not mine ;)
I guess they figure if he can afford a vette then why bother it's probably in good shape.
It failed the first time by .02% of CO talk about some bs... since then it blew it's engine on the third time and had to be coherced to the place where she's still awaiting the new engine hehe.

Saw no reason to take it off. Why butcher the car more, for no reason.
I want to keep it as stock as possible :D
Did it blow during the emission test? I know some states use something like dynamometer emissions test i think. I've read of alot of cars blowning up because of this test. We don't have emission test here in OK (yet), think my next step is to remove all of the emission equipment on my vette just to p$ss off the EPA :mad . Think I'll also go outside and start every gas burning engine that i have and let them run for a little while :D

Yep, they do a visual inspection to ensure all the factory emmission equipment is still intact. I slide by since they don't see any capped-off hoses or tubes. I've thought about the AIR pump replacement pulley that Corvette Central sells; but it's too obvious. BTW, I have the TPIS coated headers without the AIR tubes. I tell them they are stock aside from the coating. I take it to the quick-lube type places for inspection. Last thing I want is an ASE certified Mechanic doing the inspection.
A). Mine was starting to go (howling bearings).
B). It was cheaper than a new pump.
C). It cleaned up the engine compartment a lot.
D). If there is even 1 HP freed up, then great!
I read you're supposed to warm the car up before emissions, so I let it idle for about 15-20 mins before heading out to the test... it felt like it was ******* a bit but I wasn't worried about it.
It goes through the test...took forever and a day, they gave me my results... it failed 4 times worse then ever before. I tried to drive it out of the parking lot... then I looked down at the heat and saw well over 200 degrees... I was pissed the damned monkey that worked there didn't notice the temp and stop the test because it was obviously doing damage.
But of course they're not liable for being stupid, had I seen temps anywhere near as high as it got I would have stopped right there and towed the bitch home or to my mechanic and fixed it before it damaged the heads.
I was able to drive it to my mechanic but it took some serious cohersion (can we say sitting at a light in N and dropping to D hehe, and jumpin the railroad tracks at 35 so I don't get stuck)
