Default Garage Pics

I seem to post over here most, and some have asked about this project.

My wife wanted a "wet room" by the pool, and I could use some more garage space, so we came to a compromise.

This is what we started with (3 car garage with two vettes, a Sequoia, a 7R and a Gixxer 1000, plus many tools, welder, large air compressor, etc). We need more space.

This is the slab I added.

And this is what I was able to get done over the Christmas Holidays.

It has a bay for a 9000 lb two post asymetrical lift, two additional garage spaces (technically three, as you could store one car on the lift), a full bath ("wet room") downstairs, and a full bath up with storage and a 26' x 21' entertainment room with balcony upstairs.

This is the project that keeps me from doing other stuff on the cars. I am building every aspect of the garage. Though I may have to contract out the roof decking and shingles, as it is an 8/12 (34°) pitch, which is a bit steep for me.

I may post additional pics in the future if others are interested.

Enjoy!

Aaron

How hard was it to get the permits? What side of town do you live on? Wish I had that much space.

I live in the Woodlands area on the N side of Houston. Because I am not in Harris County and not in a [per say] "incorporated city", then the only approval required was the Homeowners Association. I had to submit external drawings to the HOA and make some minor changes on the window design, but then it was all approved. There are no issues with the actual build permits.

BAM, what area do you live in? I had assumed Pasadena or Baytown area. Accurate?

With regaard to the wood, no it is not treated against the steel, but done accordance to the details supplied on the web for metal / wood structures. I have seen some high end houses done with metal spanning very large open areas in this same area. Since the "master planned communities" do not allow metal buildings and I wanted full open area throughout with no "free-standing" support columns, thiis was how I was able to get what I wanted.

I am glad that you guys like. I was fortunate in that I got a lot that was ~1/2 acre in this area, and am trying to take advantage of the size. I still have ~70' from the back of the garage extension to my property line.

Thanks for looking and the kind comments.

Galleria actually. Have a townhouse near 59/610, that is why I am jealous of all of the space you have. I do all of my work on both my cars in the garage.

Dang, I totally botched that one. The wood touching the slab is treated. All other wood is Southern Pine or hardwood, non-treated.

BAM92,
You need to come up to the 2920/I45 car show on a Friday night. With decent weather, it will draw 100-160 cars. I drug my '87 out last weekend, and took the C6 a couple of weeks ago. There is a lot of action at the show. Quite a few vettes, Vipers, and for some strange reason, last weekend about 10 late model goats. And a few skittles as well.

Also, it would be nice to see another CF member's car.

Will email you in a week or two and find out more about the car show. Sounds like fun. Bryan

Default The Vette is Finally Home

The 2-post assymetrical lift was supposed to arrive last Friday. So I took a few days off work and put up 50 "sticks" of 8.25" x 12' Hardi-plank, and then knocked out ~20' of the back wall.

By Thurs 11PM, the wall was down, and I could have the lift delivered Friday AM. Unfortunately, they called midday and said it would be here the following week.

I moved the '87 into the back area, and still have 4' from the back wall, and ~15' between it and the C6.

A view from the front.

I still have a lot of work to do, but this has all been at my hands, and ~4 months of steady work. The new garage is 5 cars and just a tad shy of 50' deep.

One day, this will all be worth it, though based on the feelings of the "open-ness", that day is fast approaching.

I hope you guys enjoy.

Looks good Aaron, Lifts are great and a major necessity for doing work, I just wish I had the room, when I bought our retreat I opted for a larger pool and patio area over the garage, Kicking myself now, and out here in Vegas lots are not that big unless you build on a custom lot.

Good luck on the finishing touches

Guys,
Thanks for the kind replies. It has definitely been a lot of labor. When I was quoted $128K (lowest) for this addition (~1860 ft2), with no major finish on the interior, I thought something was amiss. Well I can definitely say that I have a new appreciation for the amount of labor required.

I added this last Spring, with the 17' x 34' patio area in Fall/Winter '06. I never get tired of this pic angle, as this is what it will look like from the balcony area.

That would be really nice. However, I am in a Master planned community, and I am really pushing the limits with my current plans. It is a regular event to get visitors (people I don't know) who want to see what is being built. They are always surprised that you can build something like this up in the Woodlands area.

Thanks again for the great comments,
Aaron

Wow, very nice!

What are the specs on your slab, considering you're putting a two-post lift on it?
