Default Dash removal and antenna extension

1992 coupe with previous Bose system

I am in the process of installing an 2din aftermarket radio. The previous owner of my vette stripped out the stock radio and left me with a mess to clean out. I am having trouble locating the antenna to connect to my radio.

Before you start, I have read the audio sticky and I know there is a radio receiver in the car somewhere. The problem is that I cant find it. It is not in the storage area behind the passenger seat. My guess is that it is in the dash under the glove box. I removed the box but don't really see anything. I see the fuse box module.

bottom line is that i want the antenna connected to the radio. I want the power ant to go up and down. But if I cant trace it down then I'm going to get some sort of other antenna and put it in place.

How does the antenna route from the back of the car to the front? Where might my radio receiver be? And how do you get the front air vents off? Do they pop-off or is there a screw somewhere?

I found a 12v constant and 12 switched from th previous wire harnesses in the dash to get power to the radio. Now I need to know if one of those is for the antenna.

Anyone have any ideas?

The guys here were great in helping me with my 1995 radio woes. I'm still new here but I'm sure Agent 86 or any of the old timers will send you the link to the pages of info about placing an aftermarket sound system in your ride.

You will also have to determine if your audio setup will cause your computer to trigger codes.

If your Vette is like mine, the the actual radio receiver is in a compartment behind the passenger seat. At first I thought it was an amplifier. Also, your previous car owner may have taken all that stuff out of the compartment leaving only a buch of unconnected connectors (or he may have cut them all and thrown them away) The switched ignition wire and the continously 'hot' wires are there, along with the antenna coax and the antenna relay wire. You will have to make extensions for the wires and run them though the console to the radio.

You will have to get an antenna extension coax (available at any audio store that does installations or any auto parts store).

Replacing the radio in a C4 is a full afternoon to weekend long project, escially if you're replacing speakers.

You will also have to get a specially made adapter bracket for your radio - it seems like you already have one. Test fit it before you do anything else because the first one sent to me was for earlier C4 Vette and it didn't fit.

Good luck.

This is the problem. I don't have a receiver in the passenger cargo area. I assume it is somewhere else since there are no visible wires.

Where else could it be?

Could the receiver be the box underneath the glove compartment? I got the fronts off and I can see what looks like the box with a possible wire that would be the antenna. How do you get the access to that area? I removed teh bottom part but it's not close enough and under the glove box is not either. How hard is it to remove the piece that goes across?

Mine was in the trunk so I can't tell you exactly where under the dash your cdm is. Double check first because I'm just going off my bad memory but I'm pretty sure the grey/blk wire is illumination in the headunit harness. If this is not connected it will throw a code. Another option is to solder a resistor (Do a search if you go that route). To retain the feature where the radio stays on until a door is open, power with ign I got from the cdm. power always, pwr antenna, and antenna I also got from the cdm. Ground I got from the front passenger sill where other factory stuff was grounded.
