Well, the fluid that was pooling under the cross member was coolant. Here goes a WP replacement. The problem was I couldn't see or feel any dampness around the pump or hoses. I proceeded as if the pump was bad. I took off a ton of stuff to get to it. Once there I loosened the two shorter bolts, they were wet and the leak now gushed once I removed the lower bolt. Wala !! That has to be the source of the leak. Questions....Should I trust the paper gaskets that came with the pump ? Should I put RTV on it when I reset it ? Man I hate the very thought of it leaking after all this. Any thoughts and tips are appreciated.
put the paper gasket on but also put a very thin coating of high temp silicone. ( the red tube of silicon). that will help seal and it makes it easier to scrap the gasket off next time.

That's exactly what I did last night. Let it set for 14-16 hours while I replaced everything. Went to fill up the radiator and CRAP !!! forgot to reconnect the throttle bypass hose. Coolant everywhere. Everything OK now, wrong. Didn't tighten the radiator hose, leaked everywhere on the test drive. Tightened that, now all is OK. At least the water pump is holding !!
I'm going to be doing a water pump also. Just today I found it leaking out the bottom weep hole.
What pump did you buy and how much?
I'm looking at a Bosch pump for under $60 from Rockauto, and a NAPA pump for $61. Not bad.
It's a Airtex Brand (62 Bucks) I called the local mom and pop parts place because they carry AC/Delco stuff. Sent my son with cash to pick it up while I started tearing everything down. When he got back this is pump they gave him. (Not AC/Delco) Oh well, lets see how long this will last. Two tips I have is make sure you have two bolts wrapped in teflon tape ready when you disconnect the fuel lines, mine spewed gas for five minutes before I finally got it plugged. Second tip is make sure all the hose clamps are replaced and tight, got so excited about almost being done I didn't slip the clamps back to their holding positions and they leaked of course. Any questions just PM me.
Thanks. I went to NAPA. I'm picking the pump up tomorrow morning.
I have a neat rubber cap kit. It comes with different size rubber caps that are perfect for plugging vacuum lines and such. They will work just right on the fuel lines.
