I have an '87 and I am in the process of gathering parts for an upgrade to the C5 brakes. I have already purchased, from Electro-Dynamics, the adapter for the front brakes/ C5 caliper. I also want to put the C5 front rotor and caliper on the rear. I still have to purchase that adapter. I am going to have the adapter notched for parking brake assembly . Is there much trouble putting the C5 parking brake onto the '87 C4? Will I have a direct hookup once the adapter is modified for the parking brake? Thanks
I wouldn't even bother to change out the rear brakes anyway...just more trouble than it would be worth. Just leave them alone and worry about the fronts....
You don't want too much rear braking or else you are liable to induce understeer during corner braking.....Just change the bias spring as mentioned before. There is a reason the GM engineers have the system the way they do, besides the cost savings. :chevy
I wouldn't change the rear brakes unless I was going to get better than c5 front brakes. You want your front brakes to be better than the back. You will have the oversteer problem mentioned earlier otherwise. And the C4 rear brakes are better than the C5 rears. I would stick with what you got, put in a bias spring, and match the rear rotors and pads to the fronts and paint the calipers.
