I have had a 93 L11 for about 4 months with 97K miles. I have been slowly be going through it doing shocks, brakes, plugs, etc. I noticed that previous owner put window wash in the coolant reservoir, so I took it to a local shop to have it flushed. After I got home I noticed it was running a little hot, I called the mechanic and he did not bleed the water pump or the throttle body. I let it cool down and cracked the the bleeders. One of the bleeders was fine the other must have had some air, unfortunately I unscrewed the bleeder too far and screw fell down into the water pump. Just as that happened anti-freeze started to flow out of the bleeder. By the time I retreived the screw, I lost about a 1/2 gallon and it flowed all over the OPTI.
Do I bite the bullet and replace the Opti or refill and hope that the Opti will be OK. thanks for the advice.
I would drive it as long as it drives OK. I just finished replacing my opti after a coolant hose burst and messed it up, and it was a hard job for me. It's expensive too if you have a shop do it. I wouldn't mess with replacing it or having it replaced unless it was a sure thing that it was messed up.
I looked at the new one before installing, they actually seem like they're fairly water-resistant. I think chronic conditions that make them stay wet (like a leaking water pump) are the reason for most of the moisture-related failures you hear about, but I don't blame you for worrying.
