Recently installed a dana 44 with 3.42ish gears being turned by a 700r4 in my 93 vette. The rear tires are original. In overdrive, how many mph am I supposed to be going at 2000, 2500, and 3000rpm? Yes, I can have the wife drive next to me but the less shes involved the better.
My converter locks up @2000 rpm is this about right?
....................Speed..............
RPM............2.59s.........3.42s
2k.............80mph.......60mph
3k...........120mph.......90mph
4k...........160mph.....120mph
So the speedo should register about 75% lower in each gear than with "stock" 2.59s. If your stock gears were other, just do the ratios to get your numbers.
On a dyno my speed read 145mph at 5,200rpm in 3rd gear, which translates to 208mph in OD (2.59 gears here).
Thanks for the input. It appears I am at a loss in that 1 hour ago I took the car off the lift to verify the rear end ratio. At 2000rpm in overdrive I'm doing about 50 mph. Do all 700r4s have the same final gear ratio?

ditto that one :D :D :D :D
I downloaded a program (off the net) that calculates speed from tire size, transmission type and rear end gears based on RPM, I don't remember where I got it but it works. (my Vette, F150 an my wifes LHS) If you want it let me know it is 3.5MB. I can mail it to you
