Default Tranny Installation Plan, Plz Comment

Ok, I've got a new The Tranny Doctor 700R4, (claim is it's good for 750 HP) 2400 stall converter, tranny cooler, and the blown 700R4 sitting on the garage floor.

First I have to install the cooler. I'm guessing that the fluid path is from the top fitting on the tranny, to the top fitting on the radiator, out the bottom fitting on the radiator, to the bottom fitting on the trans. I assume that I install the cooler inline the bottom fitting on the radiator, and power flush the cooling path thru the top tranny line and out the bottom. (near the trans) Am I correct here?

Then install the new trans, fill 5 qts of mobil 1 atf, start it up, fill 5 more qts, then shift thru gears and top if off.

Then adjust the TV cable.

Thats the plan, I hope I'm on the right track. If not, or I'm missing something, Please advise. :smash:

Thanks!

Sounds good.

Make sure you check it a few times when hot after you drive it a few weeks. Make double sure it's on level pavement when you do check it.

Don't do any major power driving for a few weeks until it goes through a few heat/cool cycles. I think this helps condition the clutches, but that's just personal opinion.

Let us know how this tranny doctor trans works out for you, because one may be in my future if you get good results. While installing the cooler, why not install an external trans filter??? Don't forget to pour a quart of fluid directly into the converter so that it does not start up dry

Well so far so good. They wanted $150 shipping + 4-6 weeks to prepare the trans, but said they could have it monday (i called on a wed) if i came and picked it up. I guess they didn't have to crate it up, and the 150 paid for a (sortof depending how you look at it) free trip to Reno. I should have taken the tail shaft with me because they gave me the trans minus that. Upon inspection of my existing tailshaft, the bushing was worn and cost me $50 more to have it replaced ( along with the associated o-rings).

I REALLY hope this turns out to be a good transmission, i don't want to do this again anytime soon. If it turns out good, im considering another one for my 78, so we'll see, i have my fingers crossed.

An additional tranny filter is a good idea, i'll look into getting one.
