Default Optispark or MSD?

What do you all think? I found an opti on ebay for 305.00, or I can get a MSD one for 550.00.

I figure my current opti lasted 93,000 miles, so if I replace it with stock, I should be fine? Any reason to spend the extra dough for non-OEM? I do have a 94, so I have no vent/etc...

Default Opti

I have a 1992 with the old style opti that I have added the vent kit to. It has around 100,000 miles on it and it works great.

If I was to replace it, it would be with the new MSD model, just build a lot better then GM's opti replacement.

Just my 2 cents

That's a great deal. I just bought a vented opti from Boosted', and it was just as described.

Sorry, after thinking about it more and more, I decided I wanted the MSD. I view it as an 'upgrade' and that was my promise to myself as I worked on this car, that anytime something breaks I would upgrade it with something bigger/badder/faster. (which is definitely questionable/negligible for this MSD part, but hey, let me think it'll give me .10 off my ET or an extra 5hp)

Now the fun part will be in addition to replacing the opti, I'll also have to run some new air hoses to the new MSD... hopefully the instructions that come with it are clear enough...

(Another selling point of the MSD: I hear it comes with the female Torx wrench I need...)

It will absorb a leaking water pump just like the factory one.. but good luck with it.

If you are determined to get the MSD then call LTB Motorsports. They sell them for $495.
But the GM unit for $200 is the deal of the year IMO

I awaiting for my MSD. Whatever you do, do not go with the dynaspark. I bought it and it was nothing but trouble. Took it to the dealer, mech and even re-programmed the ECM, still lower that the AC Delco.
