Has anyone ever taken out this rod and figured out a way not to have to use it or some way that when the rod is not in there the shifter will still stop at the line up point to get it in 1st and second nice and easy as if it were in there. The reason I am asking is that I did my shifter last weekend...meaning I cut the shaft down about 2" or so removed the OD button and relocated it. Removed the reverse rod and all the little parts including the old shift **** etc.. I got a new billet shift **** and now I have a nice short throw I guess it's about 3" above the console plate. It came out very nice and was great shift feeling when driving ...nice ans low , short and tight. But the issue is when I got out on the road to drive, I played Hell getting it into 1st and second as without the reverse/park rod in there it goes past the point of lining up right to slide into 1st and second...3rd and 4th was fine, but finding the grove for 1st and second was a bear.... I had to cut back the rod and and install it back in and modify the lever to get it to work right til I can custom fab something to work. I would leave it but not happy with the look and feel ...It looks great.....but not like I want it ...I want to put it back down nice and short....It look very tight..... I due have the short through brackets installed to.
No one has any input??????? C-mon guys I need a little help here... I am thinking of maybe a design like the B&M Quicksiler shifter with the little small T-handle on the back side of shifter...
Mine is not attached also, and I have the same problem with trying to find 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th being ok. When I did attach it earlier this summer, it made all sorts of noise in the shifter. Anybody got any thoughts on this topic?
