I had replaced my Goodyear tires with some Michelin Pilots. During the process the sensor on my right front tire was damaged and had to be taken off. Now when I am driving after a few minutes I get the warning " Service LTPWS". All the tires were balanced within specs. The tire shop has ordered a sensor but I have been told it could be a while. My question is: will this do any damage to the computer system in my Vette or the tire itself? Thanks in advance.
Funny you shud ask. Was just talking with a buddy who has had that particular light "ON" for three years with no ill effects. Says he'll get around to it one of these days.
the sensor was there to complete a pizeoelectric circuit to a pickup sensor for each of the wheels. when the psi drops below 26 psi the DIC will see a fault. a code is set in the ECM to tell you what wheel is acting up. The light being on will not hurt anything. Clearing the code but still having a faulty sensor will cause the light to again come on after driving 3 miles or so. Other than that all is ok.
Thanks for the reply tomcat. Since the question was posed I was notified that the sensor came in, but when I went to get it installed I learned they ordered the wrong one. Guess I'll just wait.
it means to check you tires as the sensor/reciever found a condition outside of normal. look at your diagnostic codes using the jumpers of you aldl under the dash and see what codes it gives you. if you need help on getting these send me an email and I will send you a procedure and what pins to jump out and how to clear the codes when you fix the problem. the only EASY way to check its operation of the reciever and/or sensor is to see what codes show up, ie. right front show fault...swap the front with the rear, clear the codes and drive the car...if the same fault shows up now on the rear...pretty sure it is the tire sensor....if another code comes up showing the right front...it is the right front reciever having the problem. hope this helps a little in the understanding. if all of the tires show codes..could be all the sensors are bad, missing, or else the LTPWS module is faulty.
cool. thanks. could you give me the procedure for flashing the codes? I know i have the sensors, because i saw them when getting new tires , but i wanted to run one a little flat and go down the street and see if it is working properly or not
Still working on it. Gotta put a clutch in, starter, and water pump first!

Re: Another Tire Sensor Question (C4Fetish)
C4Fetish -
89's are different than at least some later years.
Don't think you can pull codes from an 89 (first year ya know).
So if you get a check LTPWS light the diagnostics are sort of manual. You can detemine which sensor is bad by making sure all tires are at normal inflation around 30 PSI (I like 35). Drop one tire to 20 PSI and drive over 25 MPH for two minutes or until the Low Tire Pressure light comes on. If the light comes on that sensor is working, if it does not that sensor (or the receiver) is not working. Fill the tire back to normal pressure. Repeat for each tire. If all 4 don't cause a LTP light (not to be confused with a check LTPWS light) than you either have 4 bad sensors or no sensors or a bad module.
Only one receiver for LTP on an 89.
I did this when I first bought the car, found one dead tire. The sensor inside had been crushed by a flat. BTW, can't get a flat with these sensors at least on an 89, el crusho if you hit a rock or something.
Other problem I have heard on this board is some steel radials seem to block the signal and cause the light. Hard to believe, but apparently true.
BTW, both the "Check LTPWS and "Low Tire Pressure" lights should come on for 2 seconds with engine off and key turned to on.
