Hi
I have click coming from the rear end and surely from the hubs area on both wheels. When I start to move and sometimes when I retard.
I have also a humming noise coming at about 96km/hour and ends at about 106 km/hour.
I have read that there is a shim or something like it just after the rear bearing that may be the problem but I cannot see the logic if the torque of the main center nut is as specified.
Can a worn bearing make this clicking noise and humming sound?
I know that this is a topic that has been here before I would appreciate very much some comments or recommendations form those who have experienced this clicking and solved it, please.
I have loosened up the nut and retorqued it but no change
Hope for answers

Had a similar sound from the rear of my 93. When you slowed down or first left the line I got a loud clicking/crunching sound. When at speed, a loud whirling noise. Ended up being the u-joints on the half shafts. Had all the u-joints replaced at the same time (half shafts & driveshaft). No more noise! The outer u-joints were chewing themselves up. It was amazing that I did not break one, they were so worn. Car had about 130,000 miles at that time.
I agree that U-joints would be the first place to look. When I had clicking noises in my 89, we jacked both rear wheels off the ground and put the transmission in neutral. My friend slowly rotated one wheel while I watched and used a stethoscope on the other side. Turned out to be a really bad outer U-joint on the drivers side half shaft, although the other three weren't in much better shape.
Then your clicking noise is coming from the hub area.
There is a washer back there that has some type of speacial coating. When this wears, you get clicking noises. Replace it and the clicking should go away. Add anti seize to the spindle splines while you're at it, and torque the spindle nut to specs (166 ft. lbs) with the car raised.
with 86PAACER. The lack of a washer is more than likely the problem with the clicking sound. If you just pull out the half shaft and coat the splines with anti-sieze and coat the inside of the bearing splines this will probably solve the clicking without a washer.

Thanks 86Pacer.
This with the washer is quite interesting. What you say is that it is covered with some sort of coating. And that I have heard earlier too but have not managed to get a pair. But at Corvette Central they sell those washers but they are not coated at all. I asked them about it and they said that that is what GM have had.
I surely know about the coating from other sayings but have never managed to get some so thank you for the info and link.
A question about why this coating is there. What should the task for it be?
And wouldn't it be less possible for wear and tear of the washer only having a steel one?
Maybe its to avoid clicking? smile Anyhow I will order a pair.
Thanks again
