Default Missing thread on C4 brakes

Can't find the thread with 550 posts about our abysmal brakes(or in my case ex-abysmal).Anyway look at this pic I proudly took before going C5.For some stupid reason i'd sprayed my hubs with some gold paint which has nothing to do with the issue but look at the swept area on the C4 rotor on the left.Thats after a couple of thousand miles!!! Is that an indication of a splayed caliper or what? No wonder the damn thing wouldn't stop.Oh ,the other side was just the same. Now someone tell me that's how they all look.

OK so edumakate me ..... I don't see anything obviously wrong with the swept portion of the rotor on the left. Or is it the fact that so much of the inner portion is unswept?

I do however agree with the general premise that our J55's are nothing compared to the C5 system.

I think the stock brakes are just fine for normal use but i've had trouble stopping at the track. A few times slowing down from 100 mph and you'll really take notice

There is no way the Rotor on the left was seeing correct operation from the caliper.

No idea what caused it...but the pad should have at least "rubbed" against the inner portion of that rotor enough to remove the paint.

Understand, more mileage may have had the pad contact that area by default. They should contact that area from the moment they are installed

That's my point and Mr peabody doesn't get it.Part of the thinking on the old post was that the actual calliper body wasn't strong enough to sustain hard braking and the jaws on the calliper would spread ending up with this situation. If you ignore it and keep going eventually the pads wear down on a chamfer and contact the whole available swept surface assuming of course you don't warp the callipers any more.Maybe that's why some guys with older vettes don't report braking issues.Lots of guys that have just replaced pads do.It's an interesting topic. Can anyone post pics of original brakes sweeping the whole rotor because there is a possibility that they only contacted the clean area shown in my pic.A link to the original post would be great if anyone has it.Agent86 maybe?

This one only has 277 posts, so I suppose it is not the one you
are looking for.

I will see if I can post a pic of the swept area and measurements on my J55's with new non-spread calipers tomorrow.

The calculated I.D. for the minimum contact surface of the pad with calipers that have not spread is 9.44"
