Default C4 (1992) Radio Install Issues

ok, so I buy the nice Pioneer head unit, Bose amp adapter, harness wiring adapter, and dash mounting kit from Crutchfield. Solder it all up, remove my old Bose, go to plug the new harness adapter to the car's factory plug, but it doesnt match up. I call Crutchfield and they tell me that I will need to plug into something else behind one of the seats and totally disregard the wiring in the dash. They say I need to fabricate up about a 10 foot harness and route it from my new receiver to the back of the car somewhere.

Please be gentle, this is my first vette!

-where and what the heck are they talking about?

The box they speak of is in the compartment behind the pass. seat.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

If you have any more questions, go to the audio section and post there, or you can PM me.

Not in '92 it wasn't.

The relocation to the rear was a 94-96 move to make room for the airbag.

The '92 receiver is behind the glovebox.

The antenna wire may be long enough to pull back to the center. It is, of course, the little GM style that many need adaptors for.

Sorry, I am in work, not paying attention, you are correct. The three wires you need are on the left side of the box under the glove compartment. You will need to remove the hush panel on the pass. side of the car (the part down by your legs). There are three screws down just past were the carpet ends, and three screws up were the fuse panel is. You must remove the fuse panel door to get to them. You will also need to disconnect the antenna lead form the box (CDM). THe best way to do this is, after the hush panel is removed, remove the air diverter in front of the glove compartment (2 screws). Look down thur the space were the air diverter was, and you should see the box, and the antenna lead. You will need and extension (2 ft) and a adpator, as stated above.

Nope. But you may want to consider replacing the bose w/ regular speakers, it will sound much better.

Good luck

And if you plan on removing the stock CDM a box of bandaids will come in handy.

When I replaced my system, I never took the CDM out. I tried for about 3 hours, and gave up. It's still there.

My radio died and I was lucky enough to pick up a stock replacement with both head unit and CDM for a fair price.

Of course it turned out it was the CDM that had died.
