In the dyno runs we had today (See Pacific events), my 96 LT4 beat a stock 99 Coupe! Yeah! My Panda Bear did 304.6 rwhp and 308.9 rwtq.
Not bad for a 6 year old car with 48,000 miles, and very slight mods! :)
The stock blue C5 coupe did 295 rwhp and 300 rwtq. Pretty close. Maybe my Granatelli MAF, K & N air filter, and Flowmaster exhaust pipe with Walker Dyno-Max mufflers helped my car breathe a little better. Maybe the factory rating of 330 engine hp on the 1996 LT4 was conservative.
 This summer we had a big DFW dyno day and the only car that beat my 85 for torque was Oracalguru's C5 with a shot of NOS. The 2001 Z06s were close but mine was till higher  :D The HP was a little lower than I'd like but you can see that the hp crashed due to the intake. I'm not going to change the TPI, so I can live with these numbers, esp since I'm ALWAYS first off the line  :yesnod:
Don't be so quick about those LS1 numbers. My brothers 2001 MN6 C5 first dyno, absolutely stock was 299.5hp and about 322 torque. After changing the air filter to a K&N he dynoed at 305hp and 325 torque...
So the numbers posted are pretty much in line. The stock autos actually dynoed lower. Once the mods started the game was over. Do air and exhaust and then the LS1 really shines.
Much as I like the LT1/4 motor, I believe the LS1/6 should have a little more mid range, has a more reliable ignition system, and is a later design motor. Apples to apples, I have seen the LS1s with 6 speeds out pull the LT4 (obviously, with 6 speeds). They are both great motors, but I would take whichever is in my car and work with it. They both respond well. I have lists of comparable dyno data comparing both types of motors from multiple dyno locations and I do believe that the typical LS1 out pulls the typical LT4, and the 2000 and up LS1s, with their better heads, are stronger than the older models.
