I'm unaware of anything special to look for in an LT4 (above and beyond any other LTx) other than to make sure that the roller rocker recall has been done. I bought mine from a Chevy dealer last summer, and they discovered that the recall hadn't been done, so they did it before I picked it up.

You'll find them anywhere from the low teens to upper 20's, depending on miles, condition and desirability, and of course, season. A CE vert with red interior and low miles seems to garner the top prices. I recently saw that somebody had bought a red one with few options and about 65K miles for $14K, which I thought was a steal.

Yup... I bought my 96 CE LT4 6-spd off a buddy who gave me a great deal on it being that we are good friends!! I havent even had it 3 weeks yet...

I picked it up for $13,900 with 84k miles on it and a folder of reciepts and maintenance records since day 1. Came with extra tires, a wolf car cover, extra 2-tone CE seats(Brand New from Al Knoch), BN in box Hurst short throw a bunch of paperwork and original parts and some other stuff im forgetting. I got alot for what i paid for it! He bought a C6 and gave me first dibs on his C4 before he posted it public for more. I scooped it the next day! If i just sold the stock stuff and the extras i got with the car that i dont need, it mean i actually only paid about $12,000 for it.

It has the following mods...

-LT4 Hotcam kit
-1.6 Rockers
-Aftermarket lifters and springs
-SLP Triple claw CAI
-Holley 52mm TB(ported to 53mm)
-Ported mass air
-EM Coated long tubes
-O/R 3" X-pipe
-B&B Tri-flo 3" catback
-MSD 6AL
-MSD Vented optispark
-Mezziere Electric water pump
-160* thermostat
-PCM4LESS tune (tuned by Brian Herter)
-30# SVO injectors
-Holley billet adjustable fuel pressure regulator
-NGK Plugs

-And a bunch more stuff im forgetting that i cant think of. Came on 17x11 and 17x9.5 CE ZR-1's with 315/35's and 275/40's. Car is in MINT shape!! I was his baby! Oh, and it has the H4 light upgrade but im going to upgrade to Hella's and HID's soon.

It is at least a low 12 car but im thinking high 11's on tires but havent had it to the track yet....

It has low miles for its age but 30k less would have been nice! With all the maintenance records and reciepts showing the car has had oil changes every 3000 miles with mobil 1 10w30 and only the best parts have always been used, im happy with it. It will last a long time as long as i keep the good maintenance up on it which i will because im **** about my stuff being perfect!

Next mod will be a 4.10 gear and some DR's. Then a trip to the track...

I just got one over Thanksgiving with some slight mods. Found it over in the for-sale section. $15k for black/black 6spd with 69k miles. Just do a CARFAX and follow the C4Guru's buyers' guide and you'll be fine.

cause im pretty sure i cant afford a Zr1 or can i?
I have an original L72 big block and an 85 L98 thats kinda slow
Lt4 seemed like a great motor.

Just a minor quibble, but that isn't a mod unless they were swapped out. OEM rockers have that ratio: http://www.grandsportregistry.com/lt1vslt4.htm#ROLLERS

You're as much or more likely to be able to swing a ZR-1 than a GS, I believe.

If you can't afford a ZR-1, you may not be able to afford a Grand Sport. Depends on the mileage, but they can go upwards of $40 grand.

The LT4 is a much more powerful motor than the L98. About 100 more horsepower and a little more torque does wonders. I've heard top speeds in the 170-ish range; haven't gotten there myself though .

Also, as far as Grand Sports go, a 1996 LT4 is the EXACT same car mechanically. All you're missing is the blue/white/red paint job. And the wheels, but those look great on LT4's as well.

There are alot of ZR-1s out there in the $12k-$18k range, you just have to look. Most of the ZR-1's have been far better maintained than the average C4, and have been proven to be very reliable to over 200k miles. Unless you are planning to drive it over 10k miles a year, condition should be your most important consideration.
