Here I am again! Anyone know of a good vette mechanic in the chicago northwest suburbs? (schuaumburg, elgin, barrington)

Also why would anyone disconect the underhood lights? is there a problem with them?

Sure is nice to have somewhere to go and ask questions, you people are real helpful and give good ideas and solutions. Thanks for taking time to help.

So you can leave the hood up without draining the battery. Chicago? Don't know, don't care. Can't stand Chicago/O'Hare.

Default hood lights

The hood lights are a nice touch.
And now we are done with that.
1. the lights are a steady drain with them connected and the hood up.
2. the lights are so dim in a dark place that you can't hardly see the battery.
3. the wrinkle pattern in the lenses diffuse the light so much that nothing is highlighted.
4. larger bulbs just discharge your battery faster.
5. if you really want to keep them working, the connector is near the left headlight which is where they are probably disconnected.
Mid America sells a harness that plugs in that has a switch in the harness to shut them off when you leave the hood open.
GM should have invested the $40 they spent in manufacturing these lights, into the instrument panels so they wouldn't look so cheap and crack so easily.
