Am I asking too much
I need opinions please.
10 years ago, I bought a pristine L-98 (oil pan to valve covers) from an owner with a lingenfelter setup. This engine came with his 86 which went right to lingenfelter and this L-98 was teken out there. He oiled it and kept it air tight for 10 years or so until I bought it.
I decided I don't need it anymore and wanna sell it. What will the new owner need to do to make sure it's ok and what is it worth or what should I ask for it? Is $1000 fair?

The engine itself would probably be fine with 5 fresh quarts of oil, priming of the oil pump, and a few turns by hand (plugs removed) to make sure everything still rotates properly.
I would just restart it up like a breakin procedure, run and change the oil, keeping it at a high idle for a while. Don't want to flatten the CAM.
Thanks for chiming in. This thing has less than 700 miles. My understandin g is the original owner drove it to the location where the engine got pulled.
I have an extra manifold that goes with it. I guess I should have said that. The one I now have is ported and this manifold is almost new too.
Appreciate the help :-)

Best of luck on the sale, give it a shot for a little while then consider the price.

GM sells basically the same thing for about $1300.00, don't they? And their's comes with a warranty. There really isn't anything too exciting here. You basically have a truck engine, but with a two bolt main block, not set up to take a factory roller cam, low compression cast pistons, and garbage 624 iron heads. Even with it's age, I wouldn't be afraid of it, due to the way it has been cared for, but I would expect to get it at a healthy discount because it has been sitting so long and there is no guarantee (is there?). Unfortunately, this isn't fine wine. I would think the only person that may hold special interest in this, is the one that has the car that matches the VIN stamped on the block. To anyone else, it is just a run of the mill, (pun intended) low perf, Gen 1, SBC.

Never asked you but CFI doesn't stand for chief flying instructor does it?

You can always go down if needed but I would say that a stock engine with 700 miles should be worth that

It would probably be a little more desirable if it had the 113 heads
