I posted something in the general section but I know most of you guys are in the tech/perf section. Sorry for being out of place but this is very important and means alot for me to get your honest opinion. My car has been torch red since the day I owned it, and I think I’m ready to step out of the circle and try something new.
Red is a very nice color, it just seems that all sport car are red these days and I want to be different and unique. I’m getting my car painted next week and im really considering a color change, now the car will get stripped down so if I do change color it will not be half A$$ . I was looking around trying to find a color that I like and came across this, it’s a color by Nissan that comes on their 350Z sport car. I plan to start with this color and maybe add a little bit of pearl or something to add a little bit of a uniquie touch. Please be as honest as possible and don’t be afraid to hold anything back. If you feel like bitching at me fro changing over from red feel free to PM me and Bi*ch me out LOL .
Most brands have a similar "build your car" type interface. If you were to select a color that is available in a current model year and knew the code then almost any paint shop would be able to blend it.
Ironically I was standing at the mill last night working on my solid rear kits and you popped into my head. Wondering how you were doing....sounds like your progressing to near final stages with your car now.
My opinion - if you like the color then go for it. You are the only one that needs to be satisfied with it. I am HORRIBLE when it comes to colors and visualizing what a specific thing would look like.
Just got done painting a room for the wife at the new home and I brought her in about 4 times and said to her, "Are you absolutely sure this ugly azz color is what you want this room to look like. Please tell me so I do not have to waste my time doing the whole thing only to have you say you don't like it." She kept saying that she liked it and I thougth it looked like crap. Until of course I was completely done and gave it the second coat - then it all came together and looks really good, even to me. She just laughs at me and said see - trust me.
So if I ever paint my car...I will probably just tell her to pick a color - maybe I am color blind or something. but I never have a hard time seeing those orange deer during hunting season!
Go for the color if it is what you like. I think it will look good. But I am fond of white myself. Always looks clean, even with rubber all over it after a long day of racing.
I painted mine last summer. I could have flipped a coin between the color you're looking at and the "velocity red" that I chose. Like everyone has said , do what YOU want.
I will add that Mazda has a great color that is similar to that 350 but it has a little more depth / flakes to it. (tri-coat) Check out the RX8's for sale on ebay to find one then go to a dealership to see the color on a new one if you like it.
I dig it, but the combo of the body color and the darker wheels really sets it off for me. Just the body with regular vette rims may look completely different.

That color looks very similar to the Medium Gray Metallic on my 85. I would take a look at that and go with a real Corvette color. It is a fantastic color IMO.

Isn't your '85 the same color as the link I posted that my '87 was?

Yes Joe, That sure looks like it. I missed it in your earlier post. It's all a matter of personal taste, but I really like it and it gets alot of compliments.

I guess I have a different oppinion than most here.
I think the colour looks nice but a car like a vette should stand out more.
That looks like the same colour as my daily driver which is an 06 Chrysler 300. I look at it every day and think, what a great colour but I think a vette should not try to blend in.
You mentioned finishing it with a pearl something.
I think this would make it stand out. I would only go for this colour with a pearl finish. Then you will have a real head turner.
I just went outside and took that picture. It looks a lot nicer clean.
