Default Help!!! I need TIER 2 or LEV 2

Hello Forum.

I just buy another vette. One C4 ZR-1 1990 with Cabrio LT1 Kit.

I bought it in Germany and now to matriculate in Spain I have some homologation problems. I need one certificate who says that my car compiles with one of the folowing normatives. Coud any of you obtain this certificate for me in USA in one chevrolet office, in Spain is imposible.

TIER 2 - BIN 1
TIER 2 - BIN 2
TIER 2 - BIN 3
TIER 2 - BIN 4
TIER 2 - BIN 5
or California LEV - 2

Please help me, I spend a lot of money in buy this car and now I cant use it.

A 1990 model year vehicle would not have been tested to any of those standards, as none of them existed in 1989 when the car would have first been sold:

http://www.epa.gov/tier2/420f04002.pdf

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/levprog/levprog.htm

California's LEV-II started in '98, and the EPA's Tier 2 started in '99.

As an aside, you have a ZR-1 with a "cabrio LT1" kit?? Your avatar looks like a regular convertible.

Hello Aurora.

Yes the vette in my avatar is my first vette, now I buy a new one, ZR1 Cabrio, but I can't drive it anyway without those certificates (new 2007 Spanish law).

So what do they expect people to do with cars made in 1998 and earlier?

If the car was registered in Spain, before 2006, there is no problem, the car have plates and no problem. All the cars that not fulfill EURO4 (TIER 2 - BIN 5 or LEV II) imported after 2006, coud not be registered to drive in Spain. You could put it in your garden and see it everyday.

WHAT CAN I DO??????

Well, you can read the EPA's Tier 2 requirements. Whatever standard was required for 1999 MY cars, the C5 would have had to meet in order to be sold. I don't know what the lowest Bin was for '99, nor what Bin the C5 was capable of meeting. As to meeting California LEV requirements, I don't know if that was required to sell them in CA or not, but if so I imagine only CA emissions-equipped C5's would qualify.

In short, I've no idea.
