Default Does a Superram need porting before installing?

No, I'm not planning on porting it after it is installed.

Here's the question I have, I have both a Superram upper and a set of AS&M LTRs to install on the Edlebrock base on my otherwise stock L98. Trying to decide intake type to use. The ports on the AS&Ms are considerably larger than the ports on the superram. Both are smaller than the ports on the intake manifold.

Do the superram runners need to be ported out before I can use them, would there be any benefit to this on a 350, and if they weren't ported, would the AS&M runners work better than the Superram would since they have a larger diameter but a longer length?

Thanks,
Steve

The shorter length of the SR runners will give you more breathing in the upper RPM ranges. It also maintains the low end torque. I have the AS&Ms siamesed 1/4 inch top and bottom. I pull past the 4700 L-98 wall only to hit it at 5200. The SR will get you past this mark IMO. A SR is in my future, and I am going to siamese both ends of those runners also (if I have ample metal).

The runner length will just move the peak power rpm, AS&Ms are big because the cross sectional area will help raise that peak a little to improve the midrange of the L98, but the length is still such that it won't let the engine spin or make power to high rpm. It'll just feel like it does now, with more pep in the midrange.

Go with SR, sell the AS&Ms. No it does not need to be ported at these power levels.

As far as the porting the runners go don't worry about it. The cross sectional area at the pinch point in the intake manifold is smaller than the runners.

I would gasket match the SR. At least the one I had needed some cleaning up.

Thanks, if it ever warms up here, I'll get it installed one of these days. Was just worried about the runner size, but looks like I'll be good now.

I don't know about the runners, but I would port the base. Or you'll end up like me, wishing you had.

LD85 knows a guy who'll do it.
