This motor was a 383. The guy wanted a 409. So with a 383 with a 6" rod, if you change to a 4" stroke and use a 5.85" rod, you can reuse your 1.150 compression height pistons. Since he had $700 in JE pistons and $240 in HPC coatings, he opted to just give the block a light hone, and reuse his pistons, and go with new rings and bearings. The machine shop figured it would be ok. Piston to cylinder wall clearance was right in spec. It was his decision.
