Default 84 C4 crossfire performance mods

Righto,

Gday all from downunder (western Australia)

If any one can give me any info would be much apreciated.

Im looking to squeeze some more power from my 1984 C4 cross fire and after trawling the net I have come up with the following,

Port the intake,
2040 Cam,
1.6 Roller Rockers,
3200 Hi Stall,
3.73 gears

Any feed back?

Also has any one had any experience with those performance chips you can get from Corvette America and Ecklers

Those performance chips are a waste of money.
Port the living snot out of that intake. Take away as much meat as possible without damaging it of course.
Nice combo should give you that SOTP feel that your looking for I'm sure. Personelly I would go with 3:54's instead but thats just me

Thought they would be a waste of time.

Cheers for the heads up, I will give it a go.

Its hard to find anyone over in Western Australia that has had anything to do with corvettes

Thanks for the view of Perth.

After getting larger TBs, I was frustrated by the tiny ports, which I was told could not be enlarged. They kinda look that way, too, and really limit airflow.

I toyed with using a modified double quad intake or looking for a rare Smokey Yunick intake to put under the TBs, but eventually did the harder thing.

I may still use the TBI on the original engine, destined for my '55 F100. Any quickies on what you guys are doing to the CF intake to get some real power?

I did not like the 3.73s behind my warmed up CF; too little RPM and it felt like, shift-shift-shift-show's over; too quickly.

Porting my intake manifold was far and away the most effective modification I've made to my Crossfire. In fact it is really the only change I've made to the engine. The long block is untouched. After porting the manifold, I had the TBs bored out to 2". Carefully documented drag strip runs showed no improvement over the stock TBs on the ported manifold. I removed enough aluminum from my manifold to nearly fill a 3 pound coffee can. The only other mods to my car are a freed up exhaust, but no headers, and a Vigilanti 2600 rpm stall converter.

What kind of improvements did you get from just porting the intake?

My crossfire gained 4 tenths and 3mph in the quarter from just the porting of the intake. The 1.6-1 roller tipped rockers netted me 5 tenths and 4 mph. Porting the intake also gave 3-400 more useable rpms.

Knowing how tiny those ports are, I am not surprised. I have a pair of 2" TBs and saw little change.

I guess I should search the X-fire place for pics. TY for the answer.

I'd have to dig out some old drag strip log books to be sure, but I believe it was 6 or 7 tenths in the 1/4 mile. I have cut better than 2 full seconds off my ETs, in total.

Whomever told you, "which I was told could not be enlarged" should see my coffee can full of grindings. Yes, I got zero documented gain from the bored TBs.

Pix can't hurt, but you will know what it needs when you see it. Oh! BTW, many people remove the EGR channel. You will know what I'm talking about when you see it. I left mine in place. That coffee can of grindings doesn't include any of the EGR channel.

Default ecu mods

Can any members tell me where I can get a adaptor lead from the adl connection under dash to a lap top so I can see what is happening with my engine.
As I have just rebuilt the engine,I would like to get the best possible performance from the changes I have made, compression 10.3-1.2040 cam 1.6 r/rocker.Hedman long tube headers,no cats, true twin system with X pipe, also X-ram manifold with 2' bored t/bodies.
Any information along these lines would be well recieved.\
Cheers Gordon

go to winALDL site. Directions on how to make one. I bought mine a few years back from customefis.com. I would look at craigmoates website as well. His is USB. My cable was serial. I needed a serial/usb adapter.

When grinding away the EGR channel, do you have to plug it off some how? What is the proper procedure for removing the EGR channel? I have seen pictures of it removed but what was done with the EGR, will it throw a code, or screw something else up?

When I look at the crossfire intake I have a tuff time seeing how the fuel gets properly distributed to the ports.

Who has removed the swirl veins? I think its time to open this can of worms and make a detailed approach step by step on porting and removing the EGR and swirl vein mods or removal.
