Default '85 Corvette Exhaust Upgrade

hello all,
I am new to the forum and I am contemplating on upgrading my stock exhaust to something with a bit more sound for my 1985 Corvette. The ideas that I am toying with are as follows, but I am not sure if these can be incorporated in the corvette, which is why I am asking on here:

- 2.5" X-pipe (universal fit from Summit Racing)
- 2.5" KBD Targa Mufflers (from Ecklers)
- Cat delete

The issue that I am facing is that I am not sure if an xpipe will fit on corvettes. Also, what are the issues with upgrading to a 3" system instead of just the 2.5"? I am planning on upgrading the Trick-Flow heads, cam, and intake system within the year; as well as adding a HP turbo system, most likely within 2 years. With these in mind, what are yall's opinions on this exhaust system upgrade?

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Thank you for your time and help!

2.5" exhaust is plenty for a 350. Its when you start beefing up the engine like a 383 stroker or something that you need 3"

hey thanks... by any chance, do you know if the x-pipe will fit underneath...?
If it will not fit, what would be a good alternative in place of the x...?

Yes they make X pipes that will fit underneath. I'm not using one though, just dual pipes. It sounds cooler to me

I have an nos LT1 exhaust on my '85 coupe. I welded the stock '85 headpipes to the LT1 exhaust and used the stock hangers from the LT1 also. I love it, good sound, no cats, O2 sensor in stock location and better gas mileage (good sound always makes you think your car is faster as well!!).

I've got headers, into a 3" mandrel bent dual, all the way out the back, with muffler eliminators. Everyone who hears my vette says it is the best sounding car they have ever heard.....deep low rumble, with very little resonance....All the Mopar and 'stang guys around here (and there are a bunch of them) say it is the best they have ever heard....don't know if I just got lucky with the exhaust, or what, but the mandrel bends seem to make all the difference in the world. The exhaust is a custom build all the way, so that may make a difference too.....

Cheers,
Michael

Does anyone know of the manufacturers that make the x-pipes that will fit under the corvette?

I am a little partial to the x-pipe setups due to my brother and friends having them installed on their 350 applications. My brother has a really nice 86 monte carlo with a carbureted 350 with hooker super comps, 2.5" exhaust system, and an x-pipe application.

Don't get me wrong though, I like the true dual exhaust without the xpipe also. I actually have that type of setup on my 73 Challenger, except with flowmaster 40's and 2.25" pipes...

I really like loud on the outside, something that is heard from a decent distance away and makes people turn and think to themselves something like, "dang that sounds great/cool/etc, what do you have in there?" but yeah everyone... Thank you much for all y'alls help so far!

The X pipes really work. My problem is I haven't been able to find anyone that makes them for an '85. Anyone know who's got them?

Where are you guys getting your stock LT1 exhaust setups that you're bolting up? I keep my eyes open but haven't seen any lately.

Hey everyone,
I ended up getting the exhaust system hooked up over our Spring Break last week. It sounds amazing! I have 2.5" straight pipes from the headers to my 2.5" Magnaflow X-Pipe, then all the way back to the KDH Targa's with 2.5" chrome tips. The sound from the setup is not as loud as anticipated, but is the tone is just right for my taste. I will try to get pictures up as soon as I get a clear day to take pictures that will not look horrible. Just wanted to fill yall in! Thanks for all yalls insight and help!
