D36 durability question

how durable will my D36 be if I up the HP to about 300-330 and put drag radials on it. I have seen the 7.5 last with slicks and 5000 RPM launch and I have seen them break on DR's
who has a D36 and has beat on it and it lived?
who has killed them?

I am not planning on doing any hard launches or anything, just some rolling full throttle hits.
it will not be a drag car.

if I am just using it for everyday driving, stoplight to stoplight fun and never any real hard beating, it COULD (again, another operative word) live for a long while?

Remember, the Corvette was never designed as a drag car. If they had intended that as it's main purpose it would not have the independent rear suspension.
It's the hard launches on really sticky tires like drag radials that will kill the D36. Put enough power down, and the D44 won't hold up either.

I may have to skip the nitto tires. I am not going for much, I just want to keep up with LS1 vette's

if I lay down too much smack, I wont look like a pimp, I will like like the bitch.....ACK....

now you have me back to not knowing what I want.
the more I know, the more I know I dont know.
Thats not to hard to do. I push 365rwhp 350rwtq to my dana 36 and eat up 90% of the C5s I see. I have 3.73 gears, 2400 stall all on Nitto 315 drgs. I usually drop psi down to 20 and run a 5 to 10 sec heat cycle befor crawling up to the tree. I see 1.7s 60' times and run mid 12s all day and a best of 12.2. I beat the snot out of the 36 and cant seem to break it. Once I break it , it opens the door for a new 44 from exotic muscle and 3200 stall from Vigilanti. That should bust me into the high 11s. Ive been told Im on borrowed time with the 36. I do wish I had the 44 in for peace of mind when Im entering the stagging lane.

Mac, have you busted a dana 44 with that car. What kind of stall do you run? and gears? Those are unreal #s.
All I was doing was 'taking' a Bronco on the outside on a short on-ramp! In second gear, I just pushed the go fast pedal and BANG, lump-lump-lump, followed by that thick oil river. That was a 3.73 gear set with maybe 20k.

I am never real hard on any car; never dragged. My rears were 315/35x17s, a bit hard after sitting and waiting 3 years for me to get the conversion finished. They were my safety valve, I thought.

I could not find any deal on the rare 44, at the time, and my R.E. specialist spent many hours on research. He happened to have a newer (stronger) D36 case on hand and I went with his recommend to cryo treat everything, including the case (mine had split) and the 3.54s. He chose a gear set that had two (versus one) teeth in contact and explained that any tail can be broken. I opted for synthetic gear oil due to the heat of the 3" pipes being right under the unit, despite his avering that non-synth oil lubes better.
The guy is honest and hardworking and his shop in Anaheim has been around for decades. They do Vettes, Vipers, huge trucks, motorhomes, etc., and back their work. His son runs Drivelines, seen on TV, but also a great shop.
