Default 45MM offset wheels?

I am selling my ZR1 wheels on my 96 LT4 as they are black, car is black and windows are tinted black...you get the idea. The rears were 17x11 and will miss the way they filled the rear wheel wells but I just want a different wheel than what everyone else runs. Will a 18x9.5 with 45MM offset with 275/38-18's fill the wheel wells still. Could I go with bigger 18" tires on the rears then on the fronts? I was told that a 45MM 18's 275/35-18 would fill the wheel well better and line up with the fender lips than say a 17x9.5 with 275/40-17's would with 54/56MM. Also would one expect to have to lower the car with the shorter sidewall height to get it to look right? Thanks forbearing with me on this!!

18x9.5 with 45MM will have a 7" backspace.

17X9.5 with 56MM will have a 7.5" backspace.

My bad, 18's wheel will be about 1/2" more out.

So, the 18's wheel will be about 1/2" more in.
I'm no expert but wouldn't that make the 18" wheels stick 1/2" OUT more than the 17s??? Wheel experts please chime in??

I'm looking at the American Racing Rebel wheels. (18 x 10, 41 offset)

If it makes them sit out farther I am fine with that as I want the wheel well to look "full" like it does with the ZR1's with the 17x11's and 315's on it.

Yes, as the offset decreases (for the same width wheel), the wheel will be pushed out more. So presumably that wheel should stick out 11mm more.

is that "41 offset" positive or negative ??...41 positive would work on a C3 but need negative on a C4 for rim widths over 7"...ask for "backspacing" to eliminate error.

My 18x9.5 front wheels are +48 aftermarket C5 wheels and fit with no problem and look great. My rears are +59 and are 18x11's and sit inside the fender well and don't rub either. I have a 285/30 on the front and 335/30 on the rear.

All stock C4 wheels were over 7" wide, and none had a negative offset.

FWIW....I'm running Boyd Coddington's Rebels on my Z. (see my pictures). Coddington was bought out by American Racing. The difference is that you can go to Coddington's website, check out the Rebels there and get a custom offset/ backspace. ....because it's a two piece wheel. That's what I did.....
