I saw you in the other thread mention a few things.
May want to get a new oil pump (inexpensive) and have the pick up welded in place. If ya really want to get adventurous, get yourself a nice baffle like the Milidon diamond something or other and maybe even a crank scraper. I'm sorry i didn't do this when i was in there.
The normal ?s I guess. How hard are these things to install? What do they cost? What are the benefits? Who do you recommend?
A crank scraper frees up extra oil off of the crank correct? Theoretically freeing up some HP by the crank not having to turn excess weight or something? A baffel does what again; keep oil from splattering around and gets it back into the pan to be picked up again quickly?
If I bought a 2nd OEM pan to have pre-done, can they be installed without actually having the car apart to line things up?
Yes to all...i think you answered your own questions...LOL.
On a low reving SR motor, the benefits of oil control may not be as dramatic as with a high rev'er, but there is still some benefit (maybe 5-10 hp). The parts are inexpensive tho, so if you are already in there....why not. For me, trying to get every last drop outa my combo, i was ALMOST prepared to go back in, but rethunk that job and punted.
the windage tray i was going to install was a milidon diamond plate or something like that along with their scaper. The Tray was about $80 and the scraper was like $25, plus the ARP studs which were around $80. you could have the tray and scraper added the the pan, which would then be easier to install, although the scaper might take some trial and error. Whoever does it needs to have experience with this, particularly if you are stroking it to get the right clearances.
Jegs sells an oil control kit made by Moroso that includes the windage tray, crank scrapper and a pan baffle to prevent oil from slushing up the back of the pan under hard acceleration. You're right about the crank scrapper and the and the baffle, and the windage tray helps to seal off the pan from the crank to help prevent windage from happening at all. I think the kit goes for 35 bucks and you can attach the tray to the main bearing caps.
Change the engine oil next week for the first time. It should hold 7.5-8 qts of oil. Pan has crank scraper, windage tray and trap doors with new pickup for the Melling pump. It is designed specifically for the C4 Corvette. Ordered this pan from Full Throttle Race Parts in Nashville, TN. Canton is located in CT.
