Default Climate Control Question..Anyone know?

If you unplug the in car sensor in the Halo panel on the roof, will this disable the fan and climate control to work properly?

I cant find the answer in my shop manual.
I have taken those parts out of the car while im doing some work on it and I went to run the a/c and the heat yesterday for a few minutes to run the system some since im not driving the car right now and the fan came on for 2 seconds and shut off..then no matter what i tried it wouldnt come on at any speed or setting.
Im suspecting its because i disconnected the sensor which is in the halo panel, which is now in my attic for storage until the car is finished.
I dont wish to try and install the panel back right now or the sensor because of all the work im doing to the car now and was just wondering if anyone knew the answer.

Thanks.

Since it's likely only a thermister, measure it's resistance cold and plug a 1/4" resistor of similar value into the connector. At RT the resistance value is likely to be like 100k Ohms or such.
