I have an 85 with a 383 w/the fastburn/vortec style heads. I have the Perf Dist Livewires w/ the kool socks on them. My problem is the boots on the plugs get hot enough that they get soft and will eventually arc through to the manifold and miss intermittedly. What other wires could I try? Also I have the stock exh manifold with the heat shields on. Would headers help? Advice please.
wecome to my world......buy some accel shorty plugs.......thire about 1/2 shorter...............thanks for the heads up on the plug socks......I was just going to shell out $80.00 buck for some.
do you have the factory wire retainers.mine were gone when i first got the car and my boots took a dump.actually were shot when i bought it. also change to a straight boot on #7 and #2 wire. worked good for me
I have 1 5/8" LT Headers that are close to the plugs. I've run MSD 8.5 w/ 90* connectors for 3-4 years now with no problems. I think the 90* give a little more clerance. I use the Universal kit and make my own lengths as needed. Of course smaller pipe gives a little more room too.
