Default melted plug wires

I have an 85 with a 383 w/the fastburn/vortec style heads. I have the Perf Dist Livewires w/ the kool socks on them. My problem is the boots on the plugs get hot enough that they get soft and will eventually arc through to the manifold and miss intermittedly. What other wires could I try? Also I have the stock exh manifold with the heat shields on. Would headers help? Advice please.

Thanks!

They did not help me at all. I also tried ThermoTec header wrap as I really liked the extra performance from my previous, uncoated headers. Nope.

I have 1 5/8" LT Headers that are close to the plugs. I've run MSD 8.5 w/ 90* connectors for 3-4 years now with no problems. I think the 90* give a little more clerance. I use the Universal kit and make my own lengths as needed. Of course smaller pipe gives a little more room too.
