My 86 shifts fine when it is in OD, but when I put it in D and try to take off, it slips badly. Put it back in OD and all is fine. I have never ran into this before. If it is bad clutches it would slip regardless of where the shifter was located. There is some black in the fluid indicating some clutch wear, but the shifter thing has me stumped.
Any ideas?
thanks,
Shawn

pete would be the man for this one.something simple to check. did you tun over anything recently?
possibly a bent or loose shifter linkage arm. not hard to check jack it up crawl under and unhook the cable from the arm and see if it flops around. before hookin it up put the shifter in drive and see if cable slips back into the linkage without having to move anything. i was wheelin in my truck and had a limb come up and hit the tranny and bent the linkage. it would slip like crazy
Thanks guys. I just got the car and knew something was wrong with the tranny, so I don't know if anything was hit. Iwas all set to pull it out and rebuild it, but the noticed it worked well in OD.
I will contact Pete.
thanks again,
Shawn
