Re: [RANT] new water pump....still broken?? (My 95)
I hope you're not guilty the the mistake I made years ago. The shop's response to my complaint after a repair was, "Of course it doesn't run any better. We fixed what you told us to fix!" Good luck.

Man i feel your pain!!!! I have a coolant smell on mine when it gets up to about 200 degrees and then it goes away after it cools back down to about 185. I can't find a leak anywhere. Keep checking, looking for white coolant trails or anything but no luck yet.

You didn't say whether the smell is when it's cold or hot or both. Sounds like it could be a steam leak from a hose or radiator, or as mentioned above, heater core. Is the top on the recovery tank? :D

There is a dye you can get to put in the water system. Add it and run the car till it is good and hot, then use a black light and the dye will glow very brightly. This will find your leak. The dye I used can be left in with no harm, if you go this route make sure the dye is OK for extended use or you will have to drain and flush.

I have a Lumina mini van with 3800 V6. Its always had an anti freeze smell. no heater core leak, new water pump 2 yrs ago. no other leaks, and I havent added fluid for at least 2 years, still full. I just dont worry about it anymore. It runs perfect, uses no oil either, just the smell of coolant.
