Default best upgrades for an LT1

I have a LT1 out of a 94 camaro. I have headers and exhaust and MSD optispark, relatively stock. What are the best upgrades for an LT1, I am looking to make about 400hp. I was thinking about a cam and injectors but Im not an expert and thought I would ask if there are any better upgrades.

400 at the crank or at the wheels?

400 at the crank is easy: an LT4 hot cam will get you close, or a slightly bigger cam and you are there for sure. If you want 400 at the wheels, you need headwork: either port your heads or get aftermarket ones.

ported heads with 1.6RR and a cam.You could do the cam alone but as stated you will need headwork to reach 400hp.

I was looking for 400 at the crank but I wouldnt object to 400 at the wheels. I could never say no to more power.

A huge bang for the buck is going to a steeper gear ratio. What do you have now?

Man. or auto?

Man.- I would do 4.10s.
Auto-3.73s + a 2400-2800 stall convertor.

Hotcam w/ 1.6 rr & 3- angle valve job w/ thinner head gasket.

Do the full Hotcam kit and have your heads ported and you will be there. Or go with the LE heads/cam package.
Do a search on these mods, lots of info.

Well the Hotcam kit with 1.6 RR's puts you at about .560, so more than that.

Not quite. The LT4 hotcam is .525 lift with 1.6 RR's.

Stock LT4 valve springs are good to .525. LT1's are lower than that. The actual heads can handle lots of lift with better springs.

I just installed a Comp Cams XFI 466. This cam has .570 intake/.565 exhaust with 1.6 rockers, 218 intake/224 exhaust duration at .050, and 113 LSA. There are no retainer-to-valve guide or valve-to-piston clearance issues with this cam.

Is the '94 camaro a 2-bolt main? Do you want to go to that HP range?
