Hi, This may have come up but just getting back to the Forum. I have a 87 L98 with only 20,000. Sixty percent of the time, starts right up. Other times, key on, everything comes alive, nothing. I mess with the auto shifter, up/back gently, push all the way into park, wait about 5 minutes - it starts. Is there a shifter cable going somewhere that needs adjustment (just a theory) or something else that comes to mind? By the way, posted a question about a year ago dealing with a rotating noise over my right shoulder. Thanks for all the responses. It was the rear wheel bearing (1996 LT4). Regards, Don
If the key turns it is not the lock cable. My guess would be the neutral safety switch is worn. Pretty easy replacement if it is but once you open it up you may just find a bad wire.
If just waiting clears the problem it's the VATS system playing up.It resets after four minutes.Or should.Playing with the shifter is probably coincidental.Mine was the same and turned out to be the starter enable relay.Quick and easy $12.75 fix.Go to www.vatssucks.com and read all about it.
